Trivia

Words from Eminem

That was my little payback for Triumph the puppet dog who had got me a couple years earlier at MTV before I knew who or what he was. […] The hook came about real quick, but the rhyme was like, “Where is this going?” And I didn’t know until the end of the first verse.

When [Dre]’s making the beats and I’m not producing, it’s so much easier for me to just sit back and let him just do what he does, and just grab that track like, “Oh, I want this one,” and just run into the next room with it. It makes rap fun again. It takes the pressure off.

There’s always going to be that certain level of “I want to impress Dre.” I don’t want him to hear what I’m doing until I’m at least halfway done with it, and then I bring him in the room like an hour later, like, “Yo, Dre, check this out.”

— Eminem, Radio 1, 2004

When people look at Triumph the puppet dog, he’s saying the most outlandish shit. He’s going out of his way, pushing them buttons, and he’s like really taking it to the limit. They don’t see the man behind the puppet. They see that puppet. But with the whole Slim Shady persona, people don’t see [a character], they just see me. So it was kind of my stab back at Triumph in a poke-fun-ish type way. At the end of the song Triumph ends up saying his jokes went too far. So he’s basically getting chased the fuck out of there for going too far.
