Words from Eminem and Michael Jackson
“We stuck to the game plan. You know, the single to lure you in, to get you to listen to the record. We always got to hit ’em with that first club record that’s a little bit crazy. […] The first single is pressure because you gotta feel like you hit the clubs, the streets, the kids, TRL, MTV, BET. You gotta hit everything at the precise time with one song. […] If the beat is happy, up-tempo, and the hook is a little bubblegum-ish, I always try to come with the rhymes inside it to [tell] the hip-hop heads that I’m not falling off in this direction. [In the music video], we weren’t trying to clown on Michael no more than we was trying to spoof my own self, or Madonna, or MC Hammer, or Pee Wee Herman. But shit just got blown out of proportion a little bit, and I think, once again, it’s a case of things are only bad when I do them, and words are only bad when I say them.
“I am very angry at Eminem’s depiction of me in his video. I feel that it is outrageous and disrespectful. It is one thing to spoof, but it is another to be demeaning and insensitive. I’ve admired Eminem as an artist, and was shocked by this. The video was inappropriate and disrespectful to me, my children, my family and the community at large.
