Words from Lloyd Banks
“Lyrically, it’s taking you to another place. I’ve had records with [Em] prior to this — he’s been on my records and I’ve been on his — but this is a unique record, and it’s powerful. I think that people are going to like it for a few different reasons, because the subject matter is one thing, and then it’s the overall delivery and just the fact of us going back and forth. It’s going to be crazy. […]
Em did his portion — he actually played me the verse over the phone. You can’t really risk sending things like that; anybody could have it. […] But I heard the verse over the phone, and one time was enough for me to not remember it word for word, but to know what direction he was going in. And the record came together well.
I’ve been in the studio with Eminem since like 2003, maybe even a little before that. It’s just the same thing with him — he’s all business with it. It’s full of music in there too. He dissects the beat down to every little sound, even when he’s mixing. It’s like a word-for-word thing, as opposed to two bars or two bars — he wants everything to be on point. I would always sit through the mix, because I couldn’t think of anything better I had to do. If I wasn’t actually recording, I’d just sit in on the mix and watch the beat come together all the way.
This is somebody who, if you notice, every time he puts out an album, he has two albums’ worth of material. So it’s evident that he’s working harder than the average artist. I take that all into mind when I’m recording. Usually, on average, my recording session might be three records and maybe a freestyle or two — anywhere from four to five joints every session.
