Trivia
- The song is based on the aftermath of the album’s previous track, “Castle,” in which Eminem collapses from a near-fatal overdose in the song’s outro.
Words from Eminem and Kuniva
“One of the things that really, really made me salty about [people calling Revival trash] was that I honestly felt like “Castle” and “Arose” were probably two of the best songs I’ve written. And you know how I’m super hypocritical on myself and all that shit, but I felt like, man, I just dumped my fucking heart out and people are literally just calling this trash — and it does something to you. It made me feel like that kid again, like I’m running to show my mom this picture I colored and she’s like, “Ugh, you colored outside the lines.” And I guarantee you that at least half of those people did not listen to the whole thing.
“That’s why if you listen to “Castle” all the way through, at the end, you hear me taking pills and falling, that was the recreation of me falling in the bathroom and then waking up in the hospital and not knowing what the fuck was going on. I had tubes in me, I was angry, and I couldn’t talk at all.
“It’s still incredible that my brother made it out of that situation. I remember it like yesterday. It was a scary experience. Especially coming right after what we experienced with the loss of Proof. I’m happy that he made it out and is here still breathing and living to tell his truth and his story through music no matter who likes/dislikes it. Hopefully it inspires others. My loyalty and support is with you big bro.
