• “The Sauce” is a diss track aimed at then-rapper and Source magazine CEO Benzino, released in retaliation for his diss tracks “I Don’t Wanna” and “Pull Up Your Skirt,” both of which targeted Eminem.
• Benzino stated that his attacks stemmed from frustration with the music industry, which he felt supported Eminem more than black artists, allowing him greater freedom, promotion, and recognition. He cited Eminem’s commercial success as a white rapper as a key factor, claiming his disses were intended to draw attention to the unequal treatment of black artists in hip-hop.
• One theory suggests the feud began when The Marshall Mathers LP received 4 out of 5 Mics from The Source, despite many believing it deserved the full five. Eminem later referenced the rating on “Say What You Say” from The Eminem Show, rapping, “Five mics in The Source? Ain’t holdin’ my fuckin’ breath.” The Eminem Show itself was later awarded the same 4-Mic rating.
  On September 25, 2002, a month before Benzino released his first diss track, Eminem appeared at the Mixtape Summit in Puerto Rico while promoting 8 Mile. Reportedly, Benzino attempted to talk him backstage, but Eminem ignored him because The Eminem Show had not received a five-Mic rating. Obie Trice later recalled speaking with Benzino backstage himself, describing it as a “good conversation.”
Five days later, on September 30, Benzino appeared on Hot 97, where he dissed Eminem, D12, and Obie Trice, claiming Eminem had acted strangely toward him during the Mixtape Summit. On October 24, Benzino released “I Don’t Wanna,” followed by “Pull Up Your Skirt” in early November, prompting Eminem to retaliate with this track, “Invasion,” and “Nail In The Coffin.”
