• 2Pac’s vocals were recorded in 1996, two weeks before his death, at Ice-T’s home studio. Eminem and the Outlawz recorded their vocals in 2003.
• Hen-Gee, the song’s original producer, revealed that 2Pac received eight beats from him and had planned to record additional verses for the track, along with several other songs. However, the sessions were postponed after Ice-T required Hen-Gee’s services for the upcoming Body Count album.
• The song originally featured what Hen-Gee described as an “’80s rhythm-and-soul–type vibe.”
• Hen-Gee eventually completed the original version between 1997 and 1999, bringing in West Coast rappers Spice 1 and LP for verses, along with Headstrong for the chorus. The collaboration first appeared on the 1999 compilation Big Star Entertainment Presents: New World Order. It was later re-released in 2004 as “U Gotta Take It (One Day At A Time)” on Spice 1’s ninth studio album, The Ridah.
• Eminem’s version was released as a vinyl-exclusive single in March 2004, peaking at No. 80 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 134 on the UK Singles Chart.
