Trivia
- “Guilty Conscience 2” serves as a standalone sequel to “Guilty Conscience” from The Slim Shady LP. The difference is that it features a back-and-forth between the evil conscience (again, Slim Shady) and the host — this time only one person, Eminem himself, as opposed to a good and evil conscience debating the decisions of three separate hosts.
- The song is preceded by the “Breaking News” skit, the last of several conceptual setups for this track. Eminem posted the following warning on social media: “Public service announcement: The Death of Slim Shady is a conceptual album; therefore, if you listen to songs out of order, they might not make sense. Enjoy.”
- Although it’s not the album’s final track, the song serves as the climax of the album’s “death of Slim Shady / coup de grâce” concept.
- The song’s beat is very similar to the “Trouble” beat, heard earlier on the album. and served as producers on both tracks, with Eminem contributing as a producer on this redo.
Words from Fredwreck
“[Em] is still making great records. The Death of Slim Shady is probably one of my favorite records from him. […] People were hitting me up like, “Is that A.I.?” I’m like, “No, that’s him doing it” — he’s doing the old voice and the [present-day] voice. That’s not no studio tricks.
